Empty Waters

Plenty more fish in the sea my mates say

You can get another, any other day

But there’s always one person with your heart

You wish you could have seen them, right from the start

You like them from day one, love them by day two

But they think of you as a friend, what are you suppose to do?

Plenty more fish in the sea,

But I want this one, its been made for me

Then finally that day comes, as a great mate, they confide

There feelings for someone else they cannot hide

All of a sudden my mini fantasy has been pushed aside

‘Go for it’ I say, ‘I’m happy for you’, I’ve lied.

Its like a blow to the soul, and I’m wounded

And I’m surprised, and I’m astounded

Plenty more fish in the sea,

But I want this one; it’s been made for me

Surly she is just another girl, why do this to me?

And then I realize I love her, now I see

She’s has to be the one I can’t live without

The one I always dream and think about

When I wake every morning, sleep every night

Why can’t these people have a warning light?

Plenty more fish in the sea,

But I want this one; it’s been made for me

Dry ya eyes mate, I look in the mirror,

Why can’t she see things just a little more clearer?

He’s not right for her… ah fuck it, he’s perfect

But you must know I mean no disrespect

When I say we could be that much better

Maybe I should be writing this all in a letter?

Plenty more fish in the sea,

But I want this one; it’s been made for me

Does she believe in what will be will be?

‘Cos if she does, she knows she’ll end up with me

It’s this string of hope that I pathetically cling to

I often feel something good for me is long overdue

I hate to have this turn into a big deal

But I just can’t help how I feel

Plenty more fish in the sea,

But I want this one; it’s been made for me

I hate being her second best

Although she says I’m more important than the rest

Everyday I know I will see her with him

And it will have been too late to go out on a whim

Just tell her how I felt from day one

Would things have been better in the long run?

Apparently there’s plenty more fish in the sea,

My sea is now empty, she made it as full as it ever was going to be.
